ANALYSIS BY ALAN PORTER - 11/20/13

Mission Impazible is half-brother to graded stakes winner and grade one sire Forest Camp, from the Deputy Minister branch of Northern Dancer. There are stakes winners by Unbridled's Song and sons out of mares by Deputy Minister sons, Awesome Again, Touch Gold, Dehere, Salt Lake and French Deputy, and this line could also be brought in through Silver Deputy (sire of Posse) and Deputy Commander. Other Northern Dancer lines that have produced stakes the dams of stakes winners for Unbridled's Song and his sons include Danzig (with Chief's Crown, Polish Numbers, Belong to Me and Pine Bluff all appearing as broodmare sires of Unbridled's Song line stakes winners), Dixieland Band (sire of Dixie Union, Dixie Brass and Hook and Ladder), Sadler's Wells (sire of El Prado, and grandsire of Medaglia d'Oro, Kitten's Joy and Artie Schiller), Lyphard and Nijinsky II (who can be brought in through  Royal Academy and his brother Encino, Shadeed, Alydeed, Seattle Dancer, Sky Classic and Strawberry Road). From the Icecapade branch of the Nearctic (sire of Northern Dancer) line, Unbridled's Song is sire of the brilliant Zensational out of a mare by Phone Trick (by Clever Trick), a horse who is also broodmare sire of a grade one winner by Unbridled's Song's sire, Unbridled.

Given that he is a grandson of Fappiano, the success of Unbridled's Song and his sons with mares carrying In Reality (giving a double of the influential sire, Rough' n Tumble) was no surprise. From this line, Unbridled's Song has grade one winners out of mares by Valid Appeal and Taylor's Falls; a graded stakes winner out of a mare by In Reality himself; a graded stakes winner out a mare by Know Fact, and two stakes winner out of mares descending from In Reality  through Relaunch (who can be found through Honour and Glory, Skywalker, Bertrando, Officer, Cee's Tizzy and Tiznow). Unbridled's Song's son, Dunkirk, has 2013 grade one winner Havana out of a mare by In Reality son Kyle's Our Man. Unbridled's Song's grade one winner, Political Force is out of a mare, by Glitterman, and is inbred to In Reality, once through a sister to Relaunch.

Unbridled enjoyed a strong affinity with mares by Caro, Unbridled's Song being an example. In turn, Unbridled's Song has a grade one winner out of a mare by Dr. Carter (a son of Caro) and a graded stakes winner out of a mare by Siberian Express (by a son of Caro), and his son, Songandaprayer, sired graded stakes winner He's Got Grit out of a mare by Caro son With Approval. Other good sources of Caro would be Cozzene and his son Alphabet Soup, In Excess and his son Indian Charlie, and Tejano (broodmare sire of a stakes winner by a son of Unbridled's Song). Caro is a Nasrullah line stallion, and from the Naskra branch of that line, Unbridled's Song has an excellent strike rate with mares by Olympio.

The cross of Unbridled's Song with mares descending from Blushing Groom, has produced stakes winners out of mares by Mt. Livermore and his sons, Housebuster, Orientate and Peaks and Valleys, Rahy (broodmare sire of a graded stakes winner by Unbridled) and Runaway Groom (sire of Cherokee Run).

A great-grandson of Mr. Prospector (by Raise a Native), Unbridled's Song has enjoyed success when bred back over mares from a wide variety of branches of the Raise a Native line. These include grade one winners Songandaprayer (out of a mare by Premiership, a son of Exclusive Native, and a stakes winner out of a mare by another son of that horse, Affirmed), Marylebone (out of a mare by Wavering Monarch, from the Majestic Prince line), and a stakes winner out of a mare by Alydar.

Unbridled's Song and his sons have also begun to find success when bred back over mares from their own Mr. Prospector sire line, with successful branches including Gone West, including Mr. Greeley (broodmare sire of 2013 Unbridled's Song line grade one winner Ria Antonia), West By West (broodmare sire of an Unbridled's Song stakes winner), Grand Slam, Elusive Quality, Speightstown and Proud Citizen; Forty Niner (through Distorted Humor, Tactical Advangtage, Luhuk and Gold Case); Norquestor (by Conquistador Cielo, also sire of Marquetry and grandsire of Artax), Smart Strike (broodmare sire of a grade one winner by a son of Unbridled's Song), Machiavellian (sire of Street Cry), Miswaki (sire of Black Tie Affair and grandsire of Formal Gold) and Seeking the Gold (including a stakes winner out of a mare by Mutakddim, and also available through Petionville and Cape Town).

There are also Unbridled's Song line stakes winners out of mares from the Turn-to line descending from Bates Motel, Lord Avie, Drone and Proud Birdie, and from the Hail to Reason branch, Halo and who has already appeared via his sons Southern Halo (sire of More Than Ready) and Devil's Bag (sire of Devil His Due, Diablo and Abaginone, and himself a brother to Saint Ballado, the sire of Saint Liam, Captain Bodgit, Sweetsouthernsaint and Yankee Victor); Roberto (who has worked under Unbridled and Unbridled's Song via Red Ransom, Dynaformer, Lear Fan and Kris S. and his son You and I); and Stop the Music (whose son Cure the Blues, who is broodmare sire of Unbridled's Song's grade one winner Cross Traffic). We can also note that Unbridled's Song has two stakes winners, including Rockport Harbor, out of mares by Copelan, and that he has sired a graded stakes winner and a classic performer out of mares by A.P. Indy, and there are two stakes winners by his sons out mares by A.P. Indy son Pulpit (which suggests that Mineshaft, Malibu Moon, Congrats and Flatter - all bred on the same cross as Pulpit - or Sky Mesa and Tapit, sons of Pulpit, could also be considered).

Two 'Songs' Keep Twin Creeks Busy...

The agony of defeat and thrill of victory was hardly better illustrated than on Saturday, when Twin Creeks Racing Stable, a year after losing the GI Donn H. by a nose with Mission Impazible (Unbridled's Song), came back to send out Graydar (Unbridled's Song) to a hugely impressive win in the race in just his fourth career start.
